Lunch and Learn

Often times a particular need will arise from the students themselves.  Lunch and Learns allow the counselor to cover a specific topic identified by the student.  These are offered as the need arises.  Once 3-5 students have identified the same area of need, they are invited to eat lunch in the conference room with Ms. Smith for 1-5 lunches.  Past topics have included:

Anger Management
Do you feel like your anger is out of control?  Do you blow up over minor situations?  Are you having trouble getting along with friends, teachers, and/or your family?  In this workshop you will learn the dynamics of anger, what pushes your buttons, and how to manage your anger in more appropriate ways.

Beating the Blues
Have you recently felt down or alone in your personal, social, or academic struggles?  This group will provide a support network of students struggling to deal with different aspects of life.

Changing Families
Is someone in your family experiencing a separation or divorce?  Do you have a relative that has been, or is in jail?  Do you have a new sibling in your family or a new stepparent? This group will provide ideas and support for coping with family changes.

Salvaging Sisterhood
This group is designed specifically for girls!  Do you feel like you and your friends are always gossiping and/or spreading rumors about one another?  Do your friends ignore you one minute and smother you the next?  Do you feel like they are always mad at you, but you don’t know what you did?  This group will teach groups of friends how to effectively communicate with one another, opposed to about one another.

First Impressions
Do you sometimes feel like you want to start over?  Perhaps you feel like you have a bad rap and want to learn how to fix it.  Maybe you want to be more social and make new friends?  First impressions can last a lifetime! Learn how to dress, speak, and present yourself to impress!

Healthy Choices
This group is for anyone wishing to live a healthier life.  Different aspects of fitness, nutrition, self-esteem/care, communication skills, and developing healthy attitudes will be discussed.

Study Skills
Do you feel like you study all the time and still get mediocre grades?  Do you study for many hours for a test or quiz and draw a blank when you take it?  This workshop will help you take notes better, manage your time more effectively, provide you with test taking strategies and help you study smarter, not harder!

Stress Management
Do you feel overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of everyday life?  Is homework, your friends/family, or after school activities getting the best of you?  Gather support from peers and learn healthy stress management skills to get you through difficult times.
